Healthcare to Improve for Cannabis Patients

Cannabis patients comprise 1% of over 100 million US residents with qualifying conditions such as chronic pain, PTSD, cancer induced nausea and vomiting (CINV), cachexia, neurodegenerative disorders, seizure disorders, spasticity disorders, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, and glaucoma. This “therapeutic gap” exists in large part due to the lack of credible, clinically useful information about cannabis for patients and health care professionals. A 1% prescription rate for medical marijuana corresponds to the prescription rate observed in surveys of physicians practicing in specialties where cannabis is part of the treatment armamentaria. The fact that between 5-7% of surveyed physicians prescribed a synthetic cannabis analog quantifies the potential for broadening usage of medical cannabis.

420 InSight sees a historic opportunity to use health information to improve care for one million patients already using cannabis, and to increase access to medical cannabis as appropriate for all patients with qualifying conditions. Cannabis patients who have received their recommendations from HCPs with whom they have preexisting patient-doctor relationship to a person would like more and better health information about cannabis. Better information results in more appropriate treatment, better outcomes, and reduced drug costs for the cannabis patient.

There are 39 states and the District of Columbia with partial or full-fledged medical cannabis programs, containing

  • 271 million residents (85% of US population, including 181 million >18 years of age)
  • 2 million patients
  • 120 million patients with qualifying conditions.

The Long Tail of the Green Rush

California became the first state with medical cannabis in 1996, and 22 states and the District of Columbia have approved or implemented programs through 2014. In states with medical cannabis, there are

  • 1 million patients, 600,000 registered (90,000 registered in California voluntarily, estimated 500,000 total with marijuana recommendation from physician)
  • 140 million adult residents
  • 23 million adult residents suffering from arthritis and chronic joint pain
  • Millions more with conditions treatable with medical marijuana, including cancer and HIV, epilepsy, PTSD and fibromyalgia.

In addition to the 23 states and District of Columbia, CBD oil extracted from high-CBD/low-THC strains of cannabis is legal in 16 states without a full-blown medical cannabis program. Ohio and Pennsylvania will decide whether or not to legalize medical cannabis in 2016.

Hi, I have Chronic Lyme Disease and many Co-Infections. I was on IV and Oral antibiotics for 2 years. June of last year, I became unable to get out of bed, the pain was intense, but it was the neurological symptoms that kept me down. I became FILLed with Extreme Fear, Anxiety, Painic attacks, Alone, Hopeless, then in July I became Suicidal. I stopped ALL the antibiotics, pulled the PICC Line. I stayed off ALL Meds until August. I began taking a tiny dot of “FECO”, I increase a tiny dot at a time. by December I was at my daughters for the Holidays, and did well the entire day. I have been going to the Ocean daily to walk, I am Taking Pictures, Writing Poetry, Driving to my daughters (45 minute drive). I Honestly feel I have been ReBorn ( I now have tears in my eyes).
My skin was a “Dead Shade of Grey” (a color you wnt find in Home Depot). My voice was a mere raspy whisper, there was that hollow empty look in my eyes. My Daughter said they were sure they were going to loose me.
My hair has grown, it is healthy and shinny again, my flesh looks very healthy again, I have lost 37 of the 40 lbs I gained [without even trying]. I am Enjoying my Life again. Cannabis is my MIRACLE.
